Healthy living in the city

Seville has experience as a city involved in competitions of top caliber as well as in everyday recreational sport. Rowing and canoeing, equestrian sports, football (soccer), and athletics (track and field) are some examples of the athletic variety in this diverse city.

Large sporting events

Seville’s significance in the realm of international sporting events has been demonstrated many times. In addition to the Cartuja Stadium, there are two other football stadiums, various sports complexes, and a High Performance Center (CAR for its initials in Spanish). Throughout the city, there are many other state-of-the-art, high quality facilities.

Some of the large international sporting events organized in Seville include the 1999 World Championships in Athetics (Track and Field), the European Aquatics Championships in 1997, the 2002 World Rowing Championships, the 2004 World Golf Cup, tennis’ Davis Cup Finals in December 2004 and in 2011, EuroBasket 2007, the 2013 World Men’s Handball Championship, and the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The Seville Marathon

The “Zurich Seville Marathon” deserves special attention since both its numbers and its reputation grow by the year. The course is fast and flat, attracting runners from around the world.

The “IAAF Gold Label” awarded to Seville puts the Seville Marathon on the map as one of the 31 best in the world.

2018 Sports Calendar

The Municipal Institute of Sports (IMD for its initials in Spanish) organizes activities for citizens: sports camps, games, bike rides, runs, hiking and other outdoor adventures, river activities, and more. It also organizes the Seville Marathon, which takes place every February.
