A very healthy way to experience the city

Seville has a long history of both top-level competitive sport and grassroots sport in the city. Rowing and canoeing, horse riding, football and athletics are sports that are practised in the city with great participation.

Seville’s relevance in the field of sport on an international level has been demonstrated on numerous occasions.

For years, Seville has hosted major sporting events of international magnitude, such as the World Athletics Championships in 1999, the European Swimming Championships in 1997, the World Rowing and Canoeing Championships in 2002, the Golf World Cup in November 2004, the Davis Cup Final in December 2004 and in 2011, Eurobasket 2007, the Handball World Cup in 2013, the Basketball World Cup in 2014 and Euro 2021, among others. And this year Seville will host the final of the Copa del Rey Football Cup on the same weekend as the Copa del Rey Rugby Cup. In November, the city will also host the Billie Jean King Cup, the women’s tennis World Cup.

Fibes is also establishing itself as the epicentre of the sports industry. If in 2022 it hosted two very important events for sports professionals, such as the European Congress of Sports Sciences and the World Footbal Summit Europe, this year Fibes has turned its attention to the activities parallel to the Zurich Seville Marathon by promoting the Runner’s Fair.

The Municipal Sports Institute (IMD) organises multiple sports programmes throughout the year: sports campuses, bike rides, popular races, hiking and multi-adventure activities, activities on the river, etc. Among all these events are the Zurich Seville Marathon, the KH7 Guadalquivir Night Race, the EDP Seville Half Marathon, the City of Seville Triathlon, the Rowing Championships, the Rugby League…

In addition to all this, the city has first class sporting and urban facilities that make the practice of any sport very accessible. The Cartuja Stadium, the two football stadiums of Sevilla FC and Real Betis, several sports pavilions, as well as a High Performance Centre (CAR), are magnificent examples of the city’s sports infrastructure.
